Celebrate the new year with calligraphy!
Kakizome (書き初め) translates to “first writing” and is a Japanese tradition where participants write their first calligraphy of the new year. This practice, often done on January 2nd or early in the new year, symbolizes setting positive intentions, hopes, or resolutions for the year ahead.
Traditionally, Kakizome involves writing auspicious words or phrases using brush, ink, and paper, with a focus on expressing one's heartfelt wishes and creativity. It’s a reflective and inspiring way to begin the year, combining mindfulness with the art of Japanese calligraphy.
During the workshop, you will learn:
how to write “year of snake” since snake is the zodiac for 2025 and draw a snake in Sumi-e painting, and
write your new year resolution or your favorite word(s) on a long calligraphy paper.
Tea & snacks from Japan will be provided during the workshop :) Please indicate which day & time you prefer when filling out a form. Kisyuu will reply to your email to confirm your spot!
This class will only take place if the minimum attendance number of 2 registrants are met.
